Olympic games
back in 776 B.C.!
Did you know the inventor of the Reuben sandwich also invented NY Style cheesecake? Arnold Reuben (1883-1970) attended a dinner party where the hostess served a cheese pie, and was so smitten by it he experimented with recipes until he came up with the beloved NY Style.
“Cheese”
cake means different things in different countries: Italian cheesecakes use ricotta; the United States and Canada use cream cheese; and the Netherlands and Germany use quark.
In 1872 William Lawrence accidentally created cream cheese while attempting to recreate the soft, French cheese Neufchatel. This started the present day making of cheesecake.
The largest cheesecake ever made topped the scales at
4,703 lbs.
